VITRINOR - Sustainably produced in Spain
More about VITRINOR
Vitrinor's roots extend far beyond the year the company was founded (1995), as its history is closely interwoven with that of Magefesa, a brand of cookware that is still widely known in Spain today.
Magefesa was founded in 1948 and gradually developed into the market leader for cookware in Spain over the following years. Magefesa now had 8 plants in Spain, including the plant in Guriezo, Cantabria, which was opened in 1973 and named GURSA for the production of enameled cookware.
Magefesa reached its peak in the late 1970s/early 1980s, but the market upheavals of the 1990s led to financial difficulties for Magefesa, which finally ended in bankruptcy in 1994.
The workers in Guriezo fought for their jobs and took the initiative: in 1995, the workers founded VITRINOR, short for Vitrificados del Norte, as an employee-owned company and secured the right to continue the well-known Magefesa brand.
Vitrinor grew in the following years and acquired the land and warehouses of the former GURSA in 2002. Ten years later, the company acquired a third of Magefesa and became a licensee for all of the brand's enameled steel and aluminum cookware.
Today, VITRINOR employs around 400 people and is active in over 50 countries. Vitrinor cookware is still manufactured at the Guriezo plant and distributed worldwide.
Vitrinor is committed to Europe as a production location, to its Spanish home region of Cantabria and to its responsibility to protect the environment.
Development goals: Vitrinor is already the largest European manufacturer of enameled cookware. For the future, the company has set itself the goal of reaching even more customers outside of Spain and convincing them of its sustainably manufactured and surprisingly affordable products.
Responsibility for the environment: Vitrinor attaches great importance to protecting the environment. This starts with the raw material used in production: more than 3,000 tons of steel, for example, pass through the company's own recycling system every year, and every piece of cookware can be easily recycled at a later date. Vitrinor has also succeeded in saving 60% fresh water in production thanks to sophisticated filter and treatment techniques. Last but not least, the longevity of the products ensures that new purchases are needed less often, thus conserving our natural resources.
Social responsibility: Vitrinor is rooted in Cantabria and sees itself as an integral part of the local community. Its corporate structure as a worker-owned cooperative allows Vitrinor to reinvest all its profits in the company in order to constantly develop new, competitive products.
